The AGB Foundation is dedicated to helping minority families in struggling communities improve their financial security and quality of life. We serve inner city neighborhoods on the South side of Chicago, where people of color have long experienced economic inequality.
The Federal Reserve in 2017 found that white households nationwide have a median wealth 10 times greater than that of black households. That disparity is a stark reality in Chicago. The AGB Foundation’s Family First program seeks to close this racial wealth gap.
Family First provides two types of critical programming: seminars for young minority professionals on a range of business and financial topics; and direct assistance to families of color who are experiencing a crisis.
Our educational seminars are offered quarterly to young adults of color and include:
A CEO Panel, featuring inspiring accounts from successful minority business owners. Attendees learn about entrepreneurship as a vehicle for creating generational wealth and strategies for getting started, including sales techniques and networking strategies that result in repeat business.
Love & Business workshop that focuses on couples who partner in managing a business, and offers advice for maintaining a work-life balance.
Financial Literacy basics, including budgeting and investment strategies, and the importance of home ownership.
A Young Professional Panel featuring entrepreneurs who share the traits of successful minority business owners and describe diverse approaches to achieving their goals.
Our Family First program also adopts deserving families, providing their children with essential items for school and filling critical needs during the holiday season. We deliver Thanksgiving dinners and gifts for their children that the parents otherwise could not afford. This support during a volatile time helps the families continue to meet their work and school commitments.
Strong family relationships are essential building blocks in the development of young people. The AGB Foundation’s outreach efforts give parents the resources to make their children feel secure and valued.
We are honored to support families in need and young adults of color who are seeking to improve their lives. Helping them achieve financial security and build lasting wealth are the ultimate goals of the Family First program.
Secure Podcast
In 2019, our summer business interns inspired Dr. Denitra Griffin and John Griffin, Jr. to participate in a series of online conversations called the Secure Podcast. The interns presented research and persuasive reasoning that convinced the Griffins a podcast would be an effective medium for sharing their collective wisdom with a broader audience. We are pleased to share these Secure Podcast episodes as they become available.
